On 03 November, the Bonn-based software company BusinessCode celebrates its 20th anniversary. Rooted in Bonn, the IT service provider’s solutions enable smooth processes worldwide. In 2019 there was the new claim “IT for future”, which looks to the future.
03. November 2019. “When I founded BusinessCode GmbH in 1999, I honestly didn’t think so far,” explains founder and main owner Hanno Gehron. “The development and stability of our company parallel to the digitalization in the last twenty years shows how much we were and are at the pulse of time”. Experience and competence – that’s what BusinessCode from Bonn stands for. The solutions of the Bonn-based IT service provider are used by well-known customers all over the world. More than 20,000 users around the globe work with software from Bonn every day. On 3 November, the company celebrates its 20th anniversary.
The company has evolved with its customers. Tailor-made individual solutions based on the company’s own software library BCD-Suite fit exactly to the needs of the customers. And go far beyond what standard tools offer. “The in-house software library is the result of working for our customers and their projects. During development, we focused on the universal application possibilities in order to support very different scenarios,” explains Managing Partner and CTO Martin Bernemann proudly. In 2017 the in-house software BCD-UI was released as Open Source Software. Today, cloud and machine learning topics determine their technical development.
Deutsche Post DHL has been one of BusinessCode’s largest customers right from the start
Since its foundation, the BusinessCode team has focused on the customer. Deutsche Post DHL has been one of the largest customers of the Bonn-based IT company from the beginning until today. “In the beginning we worked for Deutsche Post Euro Express, today it’s DHL Express,” explains CEO Martin Schulze. The first project was to set up a reporting system to show whether all partners in the complex parcel delivery network are working together properly. In short, “Did the parcel arrive on time? If not, where was the error in the delivery chain? And of course, how can the process be improved,” says Schulze, summarizing the task. The successor system OPMS, also created by the BusinessCode, is now a central component of the IT landscape at Deutsche Post DHL.
Later, customers such as Kühne & Nagel came along, for whom the Bonn software developer developed a reporting system in the area of warehouse management. For DHL, the company implemented a new business process called “Collect & Return” and simultaneously introduced the platform for the service-oriented architecture. In 2012, Phillips was another major customer for whom BusinessCode developed performance management for internal IT processes. Since 2016, the software company has been a technology and innovation supplier for the Dubai-based logistics service provider Aramex.
Medium-sized companies such as KVB, FloCert and the logistics company Hellmann are also among the company’s customers. The problems are always similar; customers approach BusinessCode with questions that they cannot solve with standard tools.
BusinessCode is active in Bonn and the region
As a Bonn-based company with customers in and from the region, BusinessCode is involved at the local level. For example, the company cooperates with the German Museum in Bonn to familiarize young people with MINT professions. The company is also committed to protecting the environment by purchasing company bicycles. And BusinessCode is an official sponsor of SSF Bonn. “Even though we are active worldwide, we are rooted in Bonn,” explains CEO Schulze, who sees the main building of the university from his office “Am Hof”.
Martin Schulze started out as a student assistant right from the start. First as a software developer, later as a project manager and responsible for sales. In 2018 he became managing director when Hanno Gehron decided to hand over the company. But you never completely leave. This also applies to Gehron, who continues to support his colleagues with advice and action.
Today, the team at BusinessCode comprises a good 20 employees. Many of them have been with the company for many years and stand for the company and its solutions with their knowledge and commitment. “We accompany our customers on their way to digitisation, exactly to the extent required by the project. Tailor-made solutions that fit,” concludes Martin Schulze.
BusinessCode wants to underline this ith its claim “IT for future”, which was made in the context of the realignment in 2019. State-of-the-art IT solutions that accompany customers on their way into the future.
